Act quickly. The right next step depends on what you shared or sent.

Sent money

Contact your bank, card issuer, or payment service immediately, using the number on your card or statement. Ask about stopping or reversing the payment. Report unauthorized transactions.

Shared a password or code

Change your password from a trusted device, enable multifactor authentication, and review recent account activity and recovery settings.

Shared identity information

Consider a credit freeze and visit IdentityTheft.gov for a recovery plan.

Installed software or gave remote access

Disconnect the device from the internet, stop remote access, and seek trusted technical help. Change passwords from a separate trusted device.
